Serial Experiments Lain was developed by Traingle Staff and was
produced by Pioneer LDC as a television series which aired in Japan on TV Tokyo starting
in July of 1998. It has subsequently been released in Japan on Video Tape, LaserDisc, and
DVD. Pioneer Animiation, in the U.S. is planning to release Lain on Video Tape and
DVD beginning the summer of 1999.
Serial Experiments Lain tells the stylized, frightening, and surreal story of a
meek Japanese Middle School student, Lain Iwakura. Along with her classmates, Lain
mysteriously receives e-mail from a student who comitted suicide a week earlier. Here Lain
begins her journey into the world of the wired. But what is the wired
and what is its connection to Lain?
